Court case kicked off on Alexander Nevsky Cathedral's ownership
The Supreme Administrative Court (SAC) has viewed the case with the ownership of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral downtown Sofia in the presence of Patriarch Neophyte. The court kicked off the trial, initiated by the complaint of the Buditel cultural and historical society against a 2014 decision of the Georgi Bliznashki caretaker government, which gave the cathedral to the Bulgarian Orthodox Church (BOC). The BOC lawyers demanded the SAC’s overruling of the complaint as inadmissible. The latter reads that the decision of the Bliznashki cabinet violates the administrative procedures and the ruling of the Grand National Assembly, saying that the ownership of the temple belongs to the nation. The SAC will rule on the ownership complaint within a term of one month.
