“We urge the President to launch consultations for convocation of a Grand National Assembly, which to announce its own liquidation,” leader of Movement for Rights and Freedom (MRF), said during the second reading debates on the amendments to the Constitution, referring the judiciary.

“We start historical debates for amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria. Yet in the first proposal we clashed with a very clear position of our colleagues of the Reformist Bloc. This proposal needs very profound analysis. It says the following – the court, the judge, the prosecutor and investigators have different functionality in the process and different competence. Led by this conception, a number of parliaments have adopted the principle of different status of judge, prosecutor, investigator. They enjoy different immunity and have different career growth system,” Lyutvi Mestan stated.

In his words, that was different degree of untouchability and independence.

“But the Bulgarian constitutor – the 7th Great National Assembly had put them on equal footing as constitutional structures. What Mr Kanev [co-chair of the Reformist Bloc] announced as omission is indeed a question that requires discussion, in which we are ready to participate on whether it was a mistake of by the 7th Great National Assembly,” the MRF leader specified.

He outlined that the change can happen only though calling a Grand National Assembly.
