“The test for the next justice minister is whether he will place the corruption issue in the centre. That is what outgoing Justice Minister Hristo Ivanov said for Nova TV.

“My resignation was public enough. I cannot comment concrete names, but my successor will take up an extremely difficult portfolio. There is no coherent anti-corruption policy. The Judiciary has many problems. The main issue is not the speed of proceedings, but whether there is capacity for the Bulgarian judiciary to fight corruption. The big test to the next colleague is whether he will put these problems in the centre,” Hristo Ivanov said.

He reiterated that his decision to resign was personal and based on what could happen to judicial reform.
