Restrictions of competition on wholesale market of electricity ceased

The EC has adopted a decision that renders as legally binding the commitments, proposed by the Bulgarian Energy Holding for ceasing the restrictions of competition on the wholesale market of electricity in Bulgaria. European Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager has stated that the decision will put an end to the territorial restrictions in Bulgaria and will make the Bulgarian wholesale market of electricity more open and transparent. The commission had its concerns that the Bulgarian Energy Holding could abuse its dominant position on the wholesale electricity supply market at freely negotiated prices, violating the EU antitrust regulations. In order to respond to these concerns, the BEH pledged to offer “a day ahead” certain amounts of electricity on the newly created energy exchange of Bulgaria.
