NPP Kozloduy facilities’ life to be prolonged

The activities for extending the shelf life of block 5 of the Kozloduy NPP are to be completed by the end of the year. After that the plant will ask for permission to let the block function for another ten years, said for the BNR the head of the Agency for Nuclear Regulation Lachezar Kostov. Work is underway for extending the life of block 6. The licenses of both devices expire in 2017 and 2019 respectively. It is expected the Kozloduy NPP to demand license for the work of the blocks of higher potential. For the purpose the administration of the nuclear plant has requested permission for the gradual transition to a new type of nuclear fuel, Lachezar Kostov further informed.
