Bulgarian Economy, Regional Development ministers held a working meeting with the Uzbek Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade

 Bulgarian Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova and Economy Minister Bozidar Lukarski talked with Elyor Ganiev, Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan, the press office of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works announced.
The Bulgarian ministers are in Tashkent to participate in the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Bulgarian-Uzbek commission on economic and scientific-technical cooperation, co-chaired by Lilyana Pavlova and Elyor Ganiev. 
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov and Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Krasimir Zhivkov.
Minister Pavlova said that Bulgaria considered Uzbekistan as its priority partner in Central Asia with whom our country wanted to continue to develop friendly and economic relations. 
"Bulgaria and Uzbekistan are linked by traditional partnership, which is an excellent prerequisite for upgrading a comprehensive, long-term, mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas of common interest," Minister Pavlova said. 
According to her, there is great potential for development of bilateral trade and economic relations, which has not been exploited to the full. 
In her words, bilateral trade can and must increase and diversify. She invited Uzbekistan business to seize the opportunities of the ports of Varna and Burgas as a starting point to European markets for goods coming from Central Asia, as well as our cross border corridors with the Balkan countries.
The Regional Minister stressed that one of the priorities of the government was to create a gas hub in Bulgaria, which distributed energy from Asia and the Middle East to Europe.
Minister Bozhidar Lukarski in turn noted that foreign trade between Bulgaria and Uzbekistan in recent years was characterised by repeated increase in Bulgarian exports composed of industrial goods such as medicines, cosmetics, machinery and equipment. 
“Bulgarian side is ready to implement specific business initiatives, in the form of exchange of business visits and delegations, conducting forums to help firms and small and medium enterprises of both countries to better explore the existing potential for growth in mutual trade," Ministe Lukarski said.
Deputy Minister Zhecho Stankov pointed out in turn that Bulgaria and Uzbekistan could be very useful in the field of energy. He introduced the plan of the government and Prime Minister Boyko Borisov Bulgaria to become a gas hub for the EU. 
The Minister of Regional Development and Public Works said that Bulgaria was interested in the development of the transport corridor Silk Road, which connected Europe with China.
Representatives of the two countries discussed specific promising areas for the development of bilateral relations, exchange of experience and joint ventures, such as - construction, tourism, agriculture, food industry, processing and canning industry, cosmetics and perfumery, household chemicals, manufacture of spare parts for medical equipment etc.
