Bulgaria PM makes comments on important issues

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov spoke Saturday at the VII Winter University event of the Youths structure of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB) held in the town of Sandanski and made comments on burning issues.
Borisov referred to recent blockades at the Bulgarian-Greek border.
“If outrageous things at the Bulgarian-Greek border do not come to an end in two days, I will not go to the extraordinary European Council [sitting] but to the border to show what kind of neighbour we have,” he said.
Boyko Borisov announced he had been at the border to meet with the Greek farmers and Greek police as, in his words, he had felt unable on Friday at parliament to reply to the MPs’ questions about exhausting all means to stop that outrage.
“Travelling and being at the border, I realised there is one more instrument and went to say this to the Greeks. Bulgaria has so far defended the Greek interests very much as [it is] a neighbouring country, starting from all the EU’s financial plans and the billions poured into Greece […],” the official commented.
He added he had helped all Greek Prime Ministers irrespective of whether they had been “leftist or rightist”.
Mr Borisov informed he had not backed the idea of building a fence between Bulgaria and Greece as people especially in Bulgaria’s district of Blagoevgrad had dreamt for decades of being able to travel freely.
According to the Prime Minister, Bulgaria’s largest traffic flow was connected with Greece.
Boyko Borisov expressed his gratitude to transport minister Ivaylo Moskovski for making great efforts.
The official also touched upon recently established parliamentary committee in charge of inquiring into the alleged interference of Turkey and Russia in Bulgaria’s internal affairs.
“Nothing good will come out of the committee inquiring into alleged interference of Turkey and Russia into our internal affairs,” Boyko Borisov opined.
In his words, nothing good will come out of that committee and it will only worsen Bulgaria’s relations with Russia and Turkey.
“It is not accidental both countries’ were very sharp, on top of that at a time at which we attempt with Turkey to somehow find a way of tackling the migration wave,” Borisov stated.
According to the official, Russian tour operators are also beginning to change the direction of their work and are starting to focus on Bulgaria.
Boyko Borisov expressed his hope the parliamentary committee would use all its diplomatic experience to find a solution to the case concerning Russia and Turkey.
The head of the government also referred to the subject of elections.
“I do not want elections – this would be disastrous for the country and I would not call them but I am preparing for war,” he remarked.
In his words, the CEDB as the biggest political formation does not think it never makes mistakes and all decisions taken are the best possible ones.
According to Borisov, there are some difficult relations between the Reformist Bloc parties that formed the government and they transfer them onto the level of the government.
“Had [Deputy Prime Minister] Meglena Kuneva not been elected [education minister], she would have resigned and the government would have fallen. She was backed by 13 MPs with the Reformist Bloc. I am not aware of a party that has 7 ministers and [its members] head over 20 agencies and all boards of state companies,” the Prime Minister commented, referring to the Reformist Bloc.
He also recalled the work done on the Northern Speed Tangent in the capital Sofia in the last days of 2015 so that Bulgaria did not lose money.
In Borisov’s view, all efforts were worth it as the EU funds absorption rate stands at 98% to 99%.
“We paid over BGN 7 billion last year to Bulgarian companies, citizens, and organisations. Bank savings last year were BGN 3 billion more; we collected BGN 2.85 billion more due to the fight against smuggling,” the Prime Minister remarked.
