Bulgaria agri minister visits Bulgarian stand at Paris International Agricultural Show

Desislava Taneva, Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture and Food, paid a visit Thursday to the Bulgarian stand at the Paris International Agricultural Show held in Paris, FOCUS News Agency reported.
The official was welcomed with a Bulgarian red rose, a traditional round loaf of bread, and a traditional Bulgarian chain dance.
Bulgaria’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food is taking part in the Paris International Agricultural Show held in Paris with its own stand for a sixth time in a row.
The ministry’s stand presents the Bulgarian traditional way of living and culture, covering an area of 80 square metres.
Guests and visitors to the exhibition will have the chance to try some typical Bulgarian products and drinks, such as sheep milk cheese, cow milk cheese, goat milk cheese, buffalo milk cheese, sheep milk kashkaval, cow milk kashkaval, Elena fillet, beef Kayseri pastirma, Panagyurska Lukanka, lokum, honey, rose products, wine, and others.
A total of over 15 Bulgarian companies are taking part in the exhibition.
They said guests at the stand had displayed the keenest interest in rose liqueur.
The Paris International Agricultural Show is taking place for a 53th time in a row.
It is among the most significant exhibitions in the fields of stock-breeding and genetics, agriculture, vegetable production, gastronomy, green tourism, and others.
Over 10,000 foreign exhibitors traditionally take part in it and it is visited by more than 70,000 guests.
Serious security measures have been implemented but this does not prevent guests and visitors from evincing an intense interest in it.
The Bulgarian stand resembles a house from the Bulgarian National Revival period. Bulgarian folklore music is also played there.
A protocol on cooperation was signed during the forum by the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Food and France’s National Agency for Agricultural and Sea Products.
During her visit to France, Minister Desislava Taneva is expected to meet with Jean-Marie Aurand, Director General of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV).
Later on Thursday, at 6:00 p.m. local time, the minister will attend the official reception dedicated to Bulgaria’s National Holiday, March 3, at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Paris.
Ms Taneva will also meet with the Bulgarian community there.
During the exhibition, Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Tsvetan Dimitrov is expected to meet with Jean-Luc Chauvel, President of the French union of sheep breeds of mountain areas, François Houllier, President of the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA), and Philippe Chemineau, President of the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP).
Ms Taneva delivered a statement at the agricultural forum.
“The feeling of being a regime of work abroad and, on top of that, on this holiday is peculiar for me,” the official said, referring to the fact Bulgaria marks the 138th anniversary of its liberation on March 3.
She wished all Bulgarians health, strength, and unity.
“We are represented for another year in a row at the agricultural forum irrespective of the difficulties faced in the agricultural sector. Still, this is an opportunity to present Bulgaria as an agricultural producer with products of [a good] quality we can sell. And, of course, [this is an opportunity] to present it through a model of an authentic house from the town of Koprivshtitsa,” the minister explained.
The Bulgarian stand in fact resembles a house from the Bulgarian National Revival period.
“The people working at the stand told me visitors were evinced a great interest in going to the second floor of the house and seeing what a house in our country looked liked in the past. We should present our history in the best way to the world because there are things to show,” Desislava Taneva was explicit.
“Negotiations should be held on lifting the Russian embargo to balance production and demand in the agriculture sector […],” the Bulgarian official went on to say.
“We signed a protocol on cooperation with the state advisory service for agricultural regions in the French Republic. We have had very good cooperation with the service for several years now. Our experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food were trained here. They will be the specialists we will have as a basis to stimulate the formation of producers’ associations,” Taneva commented.
She added this was one of the serious problems faced by Bulgarian small producers – the lack of recognised organisations and groups and the insufficient level of organisation of farmers.
“The other field we will lay emphasis on are the requirements and administering of trade with third countries – [this is] a subject that will require a lot of work, too, with a view to the current situation. We discussed the situation in our countries with the colleagues. To be honest, there is indeed considerable tension, including here,” the minister remarked.
“Everyone expects complex European measures will be found and everyone is explicit the situation can change for the countries only through common European strategies and policies,” Taneva remarked.
The subject of whether there should be a Russian embargo and until when it should be in force was again discussed.
Desislava Taneva noted negotiations should perhaps be launched faster and the embargo was lifted to balance production and demand.
“These are the main subjects we will work on as regards this protocol on cooperation,” she added.
She touched upon another burning issue.
“The situation in the dairy sector is difficult,” the agriculture minister commented.
In her words, all countries are explicit last autumn’s move of allocation of compensations of EUR 420 million did not lead to the expected market stabilisation.
“On the contrary. Trends continue being the same. Raw milk production in the EU continues rising, while demand continues declining,” the government member stated.
In her view, in order to resolve this crisis, beginning to work again on old and traditional markets for the EU, such as the Russian one, is needed as well.
According to Desislava Taneva, each country has to make proposals concerning measures at a sitting of the EU ministers on March 14-15 so that a consensus is reached through which the situation could be improved.
