Bulgaria PM after joint drills at the SW border: Law-enforcement authorities cooperate well

Border – 2016 joint drill was held in the responsibility zone of the Border Police Department of the town of Petrich on Saturday, March 5. The drill was attended by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and other officials.
Here is what the head of the Bulgarian government told the media at a briefing after the drills.
“I am highly satisfied with the fact that in such a short time after the adoption of the bill we are here. I would like to thank all political parties that backed it because we see that the army is the army,” Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said.
“There is a good cooperation among the interior ministry, the border police, the gendarmerie, the air forces and the brigades here,” Mr Borisov remarked.
“I do not want to disclose any secret information but several thousand of people are dislocated – more than 400 officers with the army, the gendarmerie and the police. They will stay here. They exercised all possible situations that are happening several kilometres away from here. All locations have been tested, places where the illegal migrants can enter from,” the Prime Minister explained.
“On Monday [at the Meeting of the EU heads of state or government with Turkey] I will uphold my position again, a position I have been defending for several months. I feel optimistic because even [European Council President Donald] Tusk sent me a letter, we should also mention yesterday’s statements of the French President and the German Chancellor that the forthcoming Council should make a decision that I have insisted on many times. And it is the recovery of Schengen, the term illegal migrant to be as it is in the law,” Mr Borisov said further, adding that the refugees should enter certain territory from the official border checkpoints after proving fingerprints, receiving medical examination.
“The needed resource has been provided. I am happy that the pilots have everything they need, which was not the case some years ago. We have the financial resource, as you know we have BGN 960 million surplus in February and we will provide everything needed by our units,” Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said.
“If Greece wants, I can send them our General Directorate for Fight against Organised Crime and the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and the human smugglers issue will be solved in a day,” Boyko Borisov said.
Asked to comment on the cooperation with Greece in terms of human trafficking, Borisov said that he was not the only one to raise the issue before the Greek Prime Minister in Brussels because illegal migrants and smugglers were detained every single day.
“We have really good coordination with Turkey. We do not want to leave Greece, they are our neighbours and friends, but indeed Greece should keep its engagements and observe the rules,” Mr Borisov remarked.
“On Monday I will insist for guarantees that the money given to Greece and Turkey will not be used for earning money from this issue,” he added.
“Bulgaria keeps its engagement towards Europe by protecting the Schengen borders properly,” Prime Minister Boyko Borisov commented further.
“If our neighbours had done the same, if they had prepared themselves better, we would not have been faced with these problems in Drama,” Mr Borisov pointed out.
“We love the Greeks, they are our friends and neighbours, it is not by chance that we are building this fence with them, just on contrary – both Brussels and Bulgaria help and will continue helping them. But they should demonstrate will, too,” the Prime Minister remarked.
“All countries support me now because they realised that the firm approach of our friend Viktor Orban and other colleagues, who build fences in the heart of Europe, will result in scarifying the countries in the periphery, where Bulgaria is located, too, and we do not accept it. On the other hand, we do not accept the other position, either – to allow everyone enter wherever they wish from, to be obliged to provide work, money and home, and anything they [the migrants] wish,” Boyko Borisov said speaking further at the briefing.
“As you see I am very satisfied with the drill because we simulated many different situations, including such with migrant women, who faint away. It is not by chance that we have the Red Cross here, as well as ambulances, stationary hospitals.
We also simulated a situation with an injured police, gendarmerie or army officer. We also placed barrels so as to see how in a real situation we can push away the migrants with water,” the Prime Minister explained.
“Generally, I am sparing of praises but in this case both the political and professional leadership of the two ministries deserve encouragement,” he added.
“At least half of the equipment and the staff will remain here at the Kulata border checkpoint,” Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said.
“We have the capacity of deploying more people and equipment in Blagoevgrad and other centres within hours,” the Prime Minister pointed out.
In his words, there is no point in keeping the officers here in tents and tire them down when there is such a fast motorway in the district.
“Situation at our refugee camps is perfect,” he commented.
“The refugees go along with NGOs, photographers, media, lawyers. They have strict organisation in this respect and so far there are no serious claims towards us,” Mr Borisov said further.
The Prime Minister remarked that people should not be negatively disposed towards the refugees because the latter were escaping war.
