There is political engineering on behalf of Turkey: ABV leader

“There is political engineering on behalf of Turkey.” That is what leader of Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV) and Bulgarian President (2002 – 2012), Georgi Parvanov, said for bTV.
Regarding the ad-hoc parliamentary committee which has to decide on whether there is or there is not interference from Turkey and Russia in the home affairs of our country, he reminded that ABV have voted against the proposal for the establishment of the committee.
“We expressed our disagreement on this approach. It is serious public debate which may create further tension with our neighbouring and more distant countries. The approach was in contradiction with diplomacy and national interest,” Mr Parvanov said.
In his words, they have two representatives from ABV among committee members who will not allow frivolous expressions and speculations, which according to him are inevitable.
In terms of whether there is concern that Turkey is interfering in the internal affairs of Bulgaria, he explained that there was pressure on certain individuals, people who had most active political position.
“There is pressure on the establishment of a new political formation. There is some political engineering by our neighbouring countries. By adding the use of religion as an instrument it seems too risky for our relationship,” Georgi Parvanov said.
Asked about the attitude of ABV to the newly established party by Lyutvi Mestan, he said that their attitude would depend on the ideas of the new party.
“We don’t accept with enthusiasm such a formation, because its first steps have been associated with the Turkish Embassy and we see that speakers of this formation are having firm attitude that may provoke further ethnic tension,” he said.
In this connection, whether Moscow interferes in our politics, Georgi Parvanov said he did not want to comment on the statement of Russian spokeswoman.
“They have the right to such a reaction. Let's examine all types of contracts - not the first contract but the next ones. And it is not a problem of Moscow, and of the Bulgarian side,” he said in relation to the design of large energy projects that anyone can determine them as intervention.
“Bulgaria is a prime minister’s republic, but it is not constitutional. The Prime Minister makes all decisions but there should be a clear system of responsibilities between institutions, “ Parvanov said further.
He made a comparison between his own government and that of President Rosen Plevneliev. “Belene NPP and South Stream gas pipeline projects were carrying BGN 15 billion of investment, now we have zero investments in the Bulgarian economy," Parvanov said.
“We proposed energy sector which to export and to bring income. Mr. Plevneliev did nothing. As for my social engagements – I will give my book of reports to the President, where the biggest report is related to social activities. He has not done a hundredth from what we were doing," Georgi Parvanov said.
