Bulgaria Deputy PM discussed opportunities for Bulgaria-UK cooperation in anti-corruption policy
On Tuesday Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister for European Policies Coordination and Institutional Affairs and Minister of Education and Science Meglena Kuneva discussed in London the opportunities for cooperation between Bulgaria and the UN in the field of anti-corruption policy at a meeting with Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster General Matthew Hancock and Eric Pickles, British Government’s new Anti-Corruption Champion, the press office of the Bulgarian Government announced.“One of the important tasks of the government at the moment is the establishment of a better state – more efficient government, higher transparency and bigger success in the fight against corruption,” Ms Kuneva remarked.
The Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister presented the anti-corruption draft bill before the British officials, adding that other legislative amendments also envisaged strengthening of the role of the inspectors in the prevention and ascertainment of corruption in the middle levels of the administration.
The anti-corruption education was another issue discussed at the meeting.
Ms Kuneva and Mr Hancock discussed the forthcoming presidency of the Council of the EU by Bulgaria, the UK and Estonia.
The Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister commented that migration and security would have a leading role among the priorities outlined by the Troika.
In the context of the talks the officials also discussed the British referendum on country’s EU membership.
Mr Hancock thanked for Bulgaria’s constructive position on the issue, while Ms Kuneva, on the other hand, expressed hopes that the British citizens would rule in EU’s favour.
“The UK is an integral part of the EU and its staying is of great importance for its economic and political authority,” Ms Kuneva remarked.
In the evening Ms Kuneva took part in a public discussion at the Europe House in London themed European Union – Current State of Play and Future Challenges.
