Bulgaria’s Plovdiv awarded Special Order for Honour of Organisation of the Jews in Bulgaria Shalom

Bulgaria’s second-biggest city Plovdiv was awarded Thursday a Special Order for Honour of the Organisation of the Jews in Bulgaria Shalom, Radio FOCUS – Plovdiv reported.
The Order for Honour was presented by Maxim Benvenisti, President of the Organisation of the Jews in Bulgaria Shalom, to Mayor of Plovdiv Ivan Totev, and, through Totev, to Plovdiv residents as a sign of gratitude.
Mr Benvenisti thanked them for rescuing their fellow countrymen Jews that were to be sent to concentration camps during the Second World War, risking their own life.
He also specified Plovdiv was the second city, after the capital Sofia, to receive the Special Order for Honour.
The 73rd anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews is marked on March 10.
