Bulgaria court sits on 3 settlements in which Ataka leader plead guilty

Sofia City Court sat on Monday, March 14, on three settlements in which Ataka party leader and MP Volen Siderov had plead guilty as regards the case from the town of Batak dating back to May 17, 2011, the case in which Siderov stormed the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA) in the capital Sofia on October 23, 2015, and an accident that occurred on May 21, 2013 close to the National Assembly.
The three settlements included probation with an obligatory current address registration, meetings with a probation officer, and community service.
Ataka deputy chair and MP Desislav Chukolov also reached a settlement with the Prosecutor’s Office over the NATFA case.
Sofia City Court approved the settlement reached by Siderov and Ataka deputy chair and lawmaker Desislav Chukolov with the Prosecutor’s Office over the NATFA case.
Students were having classes at the time the accident occurred last October. Both MPs began to ask them questions in a loud voice, hurling insults, which interrupted the classes.
Siderov will have to meet with a probation officer for 9 months, while Chukolov – for 6 months.
The settlement also includes community service, which means Siderov and Chukolov will have 13% of their salary forfeited in favour of the state for a certain period of time.
The court approved the settlement reached by the Ataka party leader with the Prosecutor’s Office over the case from the town of Batak dating back to 2011.
The probation measures to be taken against Siderov include reporting to a probation officer, a current address registration and community service, in which Siderov will have 13% of his salary forfeited.
However, Sofia City Court did not approve the settlement reached by Volen Siderov with the Prosecutor’s Office over an accident that occurred in May of 2013 close to the National Assembly.
The court returned the case to Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office, ruling the punishment did not correspond to the punishment envisaged in Bulgaria’s Penal Code.
The proposed settlement envisaged probation with an obligatory current address registration, meetings with a probation officer, and community service, which means Siderov was to have 13% of his monthly salary forfeited.
