MP announces intention to run for Bulgarian Socialist Party leader

Korneliya Ninova, MP with the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) Leftist Bulgaria coalition, spoke for bTV on Tuesday, making an important announcement.
“I have decided to run for leader of the BSP,” she said.
“I accept my nominations in the country. I thank all those people that believe I can lead them,” she said.
“I will run [for the leader’s post] and take part in this race to the very end so that there are no speculations. I will not give up and will not negotiate anything with anyone,” Ninova stated, adding this would be her second race against current BSP chair Mihail Mikov.
The lawmaker said she had set herself five goals and five tasks to accomplish in the near future, including making the BSP a ruling party by uniting people in it and out of it through giving them a common cause expressed in five words – justice, solidarity, equality, patriotism, and freedom.
Georgi Parvanov, leader of the Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV) party, former Bulgarian president (2002 - 2012) and former BSP leader, spoke at a press conference Tuesday and touched upon Ninova’s announcement.
“I find Korneliya Ninova’s candidacy to become BSP leader natural; it will probably not be the only one,” he said.
According to Parvanov, it will be interesting for them to see these developments but will not comment on such nominations so that it is not interpreted the ABV wants to get involved in this process as it does not interfere in the internal affairs of any party.
Sociologist Yuriy Aslanov spoke Tuesday for FOCUS News Agency and also referred to Ninova’s announcement.
“It is clear what the intrigue at this congress [of the BSP] will be; it concerns two main candidates – Mihail Mikov and Korneliya Ninova,” the sociologist commented.
According to Aslanov, Ninova is a “rational person”, which is a thing BSP followers have been expecting to see in their leader.
In Aslanov’s view, a year is a sufficient time to see what a leader is capable of and the sociologist does not believe BSP chair Mihail Mikov’s running to win a second mandate will be approved by all voters.
