1,262,000 Bulgarian pensioners to receive BGN 40 Easter bonus: Deputy PM

“Some 1,262,000 Bulgarian pensioners will receive a BGN 40 Easter bonus,” Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister for Demographic and Social Policies and Minister of Labour and Social Policy Ivaylo Kalfin announced speaking with journalists after the sitting of the Council of Ministers, FOCUS News Agency reporter said.
“The Council of Ministers decided to transfer BGN 50.5 million to the budget of the public social insurance budget for 2016,” the minister explained.
Mr Kalfin added that the group of pensioners, who would receive the bonus, had been expanded. The good news is valid for people receiving up to BGN 300 pension.
“The measure covers some 1,262,000 out of a total of 2,187,000 pensioners in Bulgaria, which is around 60% of all,” Ivaylo Kalfin remarked.
He added that the measure would not violate the budget stability of the country.
“We will do everything possible for people with low incomes to receive Easter allowances with their April's pensions”, Minister Ivaylo Kalfin said for bTV.
Minister Kalfin explained that at today's meeting the Council of Ministers has allocated additional subsidy of BGN 50.5 million for pensioners with the lowest pensions.
"So, pensioners who received allowances for Christmas will receive Easter allowances. We will do everything possible to receive them with their April's pensions. These are people with low incomes," he explained.
In connection with the stress tests of pension funds, he said that they must demonstrate stability of the system.
"Stress tests in our country had to start from the beginning of the year. They were postponed for the mid-year. By mid-year we will have information about the banking sector, and by the end of the year - about pension funds," he said.
