Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev says admires German chancellor’s humanity

What Bulgaria expected from the agreement between Brussels and Ankara was for all external borders with Turkey to be well-secured. This is what Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev said in an interview with German media Deutsche Welle
The Bulgarian head of state assured that the situation around the so-called “Western Balkan route” of refugees was monitored carefully and a series of measures had been taken in case a large group of migrants were looking for a way towards Europe via Bulgarian territory. Asked on whether the country required “some form of aid” from the EU, Mr Plevneliev said explicitly: “Yes. The expenditures on border security and [refugee] centres, food and medical care for refugees and migrants burden the Bulgarian budget.”
Apart from this, the agreement between the EU and Turkey was supposed to consider Bulgaria’s concerns related to possible migrant pressure upon the border. “Bulgaria insists for all external borders of the EU with Turkey to be equally secure,” the president noted.
The head of state paid respects to the political course of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel regarding refugees. “I admire the humanity of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. In extremely difficult times she offered an example of a responsible policy oriented towards values, unlike other politicians in Europe, who think short-sightedly and act driven by narrow political interests,” commented Bulgaria’s head of state.
