Notorious Bulgarian banker Tsvetan Vasilev to face the court in Belgrade
Serbia’s Supreme Court is to sit on the trial over Bulgaria’s request for extradition of Bulgarian banker Tsvetan Vasilev. Authorities in Bulgaria require Vasilev to be handed to Sofia so as to face the court over the bankruptcy of Corporate Commercial Bank (CorpBank). The sitting was initially scheduled for February 24 but then adjourned after Vasilev’s lawyer presented a sick note claiming that the defendant suffers influenza and thus could not appear before the court.
Nearly a year ago the Supreme Court allowed the extradition of the banker but his lawyers appealed against the court ruling with the motive that there was a violation of the right of defence. Their motives were respected and the Supreme Court had to launch the trial all over again.
