Bulgaria, Hungary report record growth in mutual trade

 Bulgaria attaches great importance to the development of economic cooperation with Hungary and backs any initiative that would contribute to strengthening the bilateral partnership. That is what Bulgarian Minister of Economy, Bozhidar Lukarski, said at the opening of the Bulgarian – Hungarian business forum in Budapest on Thursday. The forum was attended by nearly 140 representatives of Bulgarian and Hungarian companies, the press centre of the Ministry of Economy announced.
In his speech Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Siyarto pointed out that Bulgaria and Hungary have established themselves as successful countries that challenged old economic dogmas and proved that economic growth and sound finances could exist together. "Bulgaria managed to protect EU borders from refugee wave which has serious economic consequences. Your country done much more to protect the Schengen compared to other Schengen countries,” Siyarto said. 
"Therefore, we believe that Bulgaria should join the Schengen area as soon as possible, which will expand trade and economic relations," he added.
During the forum, Minster Lukarski outlined that there was political, trade- economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries, which made their bilateral relations a priority. The Bulgarian Minister noted further that economy policy of the Bulgarian government was targeted at maintenance of the financial stability and taking active measures to achieve speeded economic growth which turned our country into attractive location for business and investments. 
As promising to attract Hungarian investments, he stressed a number of high-tech sectors such as mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, information technology, telecommunications, research and development, technology in environmental protection. There is potential in the field of transport infrastructure and logistics, agriculture and food products, incl. organic food, health.
Minister Siyarto in turn, noted that in 2015 bilateral trade reached a record, which marked a 14% increase and amounted to EUR 1.3 billion. At the same time Hungary realises exports to Bulgaria at the amount of EUR 955 million, which is high. 
Minister Siyarto stressed the efforts of the Hungarian country to promote trade relations with Bulgaria, which received strong impetus as a result of the Hungarian Eximbank granted low-interest credit line for EUR 350 million to support bilateral trade.
Executive director of the Bulgarian Investment Agency Stamen Yanev, Deputy Executive Director of the Executive Agency for Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises Nikola Stoyanov and CEO of the National Company Industrial Zones, Stefan Staykov, made presentations during the forum on opportunities to expand investment and trade with Bulgaria. Organizer of the forum is Hungarian national trade house.
During his visit to Hungary Bulgarian Economy Minister Bozhidar Lukarski met with Minister of National Economy of Hungary Mihai Varga. They expressed the opinion that there was a much higher potential between the two countries despite the strong results and economic relations. 
During the meeting Minister Varga informed Minister Lukarski on the progress and experience of Hungary in the introduction of duality training. He explained that in Hungary total of 330 vocational schools have passed to the Ministry of Economy. The Ministry and the Economic Chamber identify priority subjects for vocational training according to the needs of the business training that is subsidised by the state, every year. Currently, there are 53,000 youths training within the system.
Minister Varga also shared the experience of Hungary in addressing the debt crisis, reducing unemployment rate and achieving economic growth. 
In turn, Minister Lukarski assured that the Bulgarian government and Prime Minister Borisov highly evaluate the economic policy and good economic performance achieved by Hungary. He pointed out that the main priority of the country was export promotion and cooperation of export-oriented enterprises between the two countries. 
Minister Lukarski expressed confidence that the two countries had a lot to share as experiences and proposed the two governments to hold a joint meeting. 
The two ministers also discussed the forthcoming opening of a direct air route between the two capitals, which will further stimulate the development of business contacts.
