Bulgaria parliament chair attends sanctification of temple in Sofia

Chairperson of the Bulgarian National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva attended the sanctification of the cathedral temple the Dormition of the Mother of God Catholic Apostolic Exarchate in the Bulgarian capital city Sofia on Sunday, the press centre of parliament announced.
The solemn service was held by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria on March 20-21.
Cardinal Parolin greeted the people attending the sanctification on behalf of Pope Francis and said he followed with interest the life of the small Catholic community in Bulgaria.
The cathedral has witnessed lots of joyous and sad moments for nearly a century, Parolin commented.
He also mentioned Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II as some of the people who had prayed in it.
Cardinal Pietro Parolin expressed his gratitude to Tsetska Tsacheva, Vice President Margarita Popova, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Science Meglena Kuneva, and the other official guests for attending the event.
“Gathering here, we can feel our belonging to the common Christian family; all of us together are the stone of a building – the Church of Christ,” he added.
Cardinal Parolin urged believers to remain forever loyal to God and have their hearts opened to people from other faiths.
Parliament chair Tsetska Tsacheva held talks with Pietro Parolin after the solemn mass.
She stated she was happy with attending the sanctification of the temple of Palm Sunday.
The parliament official noted Bulgaria highly appreciated everything the Holy See did to eliminate poverty and injustice worldwide and also shared those goals.
Ms Tsacheva remarked she would lead the Bulgarian delegation that would visit the Vatican and which would be also comprised of a member of the Catholic Church.
The Tsetska Tsacheva recalled Bulgaria did homage to the deed of Saints Cyril and Methodius every year.
Cardinal Pietro Parolin said he would be glad to meet and hold talks in the Vatican.
Bishop Hristo Proykov, Apostolic Exarch of Sofia and Chairman of the Episcopal Conference of the Catholic Church in Bulgaria, presented Ms Tsacheva with a commemorative medal on the occasion of the cathedral temple the Dormition of the Mother of God.
