Bulgaria Deputy PM Kalfin 1st Bulgarian labour minister invited as moderator at EPSCO Council

Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister for Demographic and Social Policies and Minister of Labour and Social Policy Ivaylo Kalfin has been invited to moderate one of the three panels of the next sitting of the EU Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council, the press office of the Bulgarian Ministry of Labour and Social Policy announced on Monday.
The invitation came from Dutch Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Employment Lodewijk Asscher, who is also Chairperson of the Council in line with the Dutch EU Presidency.
Deputy Prime Minister Kalfin will moderate the social panel dedicated to the social protection of the workers in the EU.
“I consider the invitation an evaluation of what our country achieved in the field of employment over the past year. Bulgaria is among the leaders in Europe in terms of unemployment rate decrease and we make great efforts to include to the labour market the young people, the steadily unemployed and the inactive people.
Of course, there is still much more to be done in this direction and the ministry considers it a priority.
We notice a positive tendency of downturn, which the EC pays special attention to, too. It is a fact that so far a Bulgarian minister has never been invited to moderate a meeting of the labour ministers within the EU Council, which means that Bulgaria’s voice is more and more clearly heard, and this is definitely a positive assessment for our work in the field of social protection of the working people in Bulgaria,” Ivaylo Kalfin remarked.
The next sitting of the EU Council with the participation of the labour ministers of the EU member states will be held in Amsterdam in the end of April.
The focus of the sitting will be put on the measures for improvement of the work of the labour market, including improvement of the regulation on the mobility of the commissioner workers, improvement of the access to the labour market and enhancing the fairness and equality in the formation of the remuneration of the labour migrants.
