Bulgaria tourism minister visits Peshtera

Bulgarian Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova visited the town of Peshtera on Monday at the invitation of MP Desislava Kostadinova and Peshtera Mayor Nikolay Zaychev.
Minister Angelkova also went to the Peristera Fortress, which is located close to Peshtera.
It transpired during her visit some 1,000 tourists on the average visit the fortress per month.
“Over 25,000 tourists have visited the attraction site since it was opened at the end of May of 2014,”Angelkova commented.
She added this interest should be stirred up by offering tourists combined routes involving other attractive municipalities in the region, such as Batak and Bratsigovo.
“The region has a huge potential. It is not accidental the number of nights spent in accommodation establishment in the district of Pazardzhik is over 511,000, while the revenues amount to over BGN 23. 5 million,” the official noted.
Angelkova pointed out it was important each visitor could feel the history of the site.
The minister announced it would be added to the investment map the Ministry of Tourism was working on.
“The municipality has a vision of development of tourism in the region and we will support their initiatives at a national level,” the government member stressed.
The Peristera Fortress was renovated with the financial support of OP Regional Development 2007-2013 through the European Regional Development Fund.
The project amounts to over BGN 3.5 million.
Over 300 unique artifacts were discovered during the excavations.
Visitors to the fortress are given the opportunity to throw a javelin, learn more about battering rams, and others.
Nikolina Angelkova also spoke for Radio FOCUS – Pazardzhik on Monday, making comments on her visit to Peshtera.
“Peshtera is one of the main municipalities that further the development of cultural heritage tourism,” she said.
In her words, data on visits to the Peristera Fortress, which is located close to Peshtera, show visitors to it number some 1,000 on a monthly basis, which is very positive and indicates a trend of a 10% growth compared to last year.
“I believe as there is a clear vision and concept of turning the municipality into a cultural heritage tourism destination centred around the Peristera Fortress and Snezhanka Cave, we will manage to jointly develop that beginning of things. The mayor has a very good vision of development of the region and turning it into a tourist destination and I think we will be able to jointly achieve that,” Angelkova opined.
She added the Peristera Fortress was part of the common cultural heritage route the Ministry of Tourism had worked out and showed at all international fairs at which Bulgaria was presented as a tourist destination.
According to the government member, the Mayor of Peshtera informed her of a very interesting project for the old barracks in the town.
In Angelkova’s the Ministry of Tourism is working on an investment map for investment opportunities in the sector of tourism and the project in question will be certainly added to it so that it is presented to investors.
