Bulgarian parliament chair insisted on EP- SEECP cooperation mechanism at a meeting in Brussels

Chairperson of the Bulgarian National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva went on a visit to the European Parliament (EP) in Brussels on March 21-22. The visit is organised in Ms Tsacheva’s capacity of President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).
As Chairperson of the Bulgarian National Assembly and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Tsetska Tsacheva presented in Brussels Bulgaria’s initiative for a standing mechanism for cooperation between the SEECP Parliamentary Assembly and the European Parliament (EP) during the preparatory meeting of the parliamentarians from the region ahead of the debate at the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs dedicated to the front-burner issues of the agenda of Southeast Europe and strengthening the cooperation between the two institutions.
The Bulgarian chairmanship offers the two institutions to work out a joint document that sets the groundwork of a sustainable and comprehensive model of cooperation in key fields for the region.
In the first place this is the stepped-up cooperation between the EP and the EECP Parliamentary Assembly in the field of migration policies, as well as integrated policy on the judicial cooperation and fight against cross-border organised crime.
The economic management, competitiveness and connectivity in the field of energy and transport, following the implementation of the energy efficiency policies and mentioning of the financial aid provided by the funds and programmes of the EU, is another important fields for which the draft document envisages new forms of enhanced cooperation.
The document also envisages strengthening of the democratic institutions and the reform in the public administration, as well as social development, education and science.
“We should be absolutely clear – there are challenges in the European perspective of Southeast Europe,” Ms Tsacheva remarked.
In her words, today the countries in the region are faced with common risks and threats, which derive from the development of processes of transformation and resistance in the Black Sea region, the Middle East and North Africa.
“And here comes the issue about the risk of a lack of shared perspective for their efficient overcoming,” Tsetska Tsacheva added.
According to her, this problematic situation generates high level of political tension and opens spaces for expansion of the influence of populist projects. That is why Ms Tsacheva pointed at the need of new engaged policies with a clear vision for the region and its European perspectives.
In support to this Tsetska Tsacheva presented the position of the SEECP Parliamentary Assembly for common European norms and rules, which to guarantee sustainable solution of the migration problems.
Ms Tsacheva also outlined the major priorities both for the EU and for the Southeast Europe region, and namely – energy and transport connectivity, liberalised energy market, establishment of priority transport corridors.
