Mayor of Bulgarian capital outlined priorities for 2016
“Major priorities of Sofia Municipality are focused on two directions – investments in infrastructure, which to guarantee cleaner environment, and investments in the education,” Yordanka Fandakova, Mayor of the Bulgarian capital city Sofia, said speaking at a working breakfast organised in partnership between the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the French-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce on Monday.“The dialogue with the business is highly important for us, especially in the beginning of the new mandate,” Ms Fandakova remarked, adding that her team had been working on solving the problems in the capital city for several years.
“The establishment of the Sofia Municipal Privatisation and Investments Agency speaks about the focus of our work in the next years,” the mayor said further.
“Over the past years of severest financial and economic crisis, we focused our priorities on pulling the city and the citizens through the crisis and at the same time developing the city. We did it thanks to strict financial discipline,” Yordanka Fandakova explained, adding that apart from the strict policy on tax collection, the opportunity to use the EU funds and operational programmes played an important role, too.
“We plan 80% recycling and utilisation of the waste,” Yordanka Fandakova, Mayor of the Bulgarian capital city Sofia, aid speaking at a working breakfast organised in partnership between the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the French-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, FOCUS News Agency reporter said.
“We managed to establish the biggest waste management installation and thus finalise the construction of an integrated waste processing system, which includes a modern waste depot, two installations for green and food waste processing, which already bring results,” the mayor explained.
“The results are a fact – electricity production, high-quality compost, which is demanded and realised at the market through the country, maximum opportunity for waste recycling, which provides for 50% waste recycling rate.
Together with the other productions currently we plan nearly 80% waste recycling and utilisation,” Ms Fandakova commented further.
