No real threat to Bulgaria capital residents’ health, life: ministry official on signal over threat

“There is no real threat to the health and life of citizens in the capital city,” said Georgi Kostov, Secretary General of the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior, speaking Thursday for bTV. Kostov was referring to a signal in the social media over a threat to an unspecified bus line or bus lines passing close to the so-called Pliska Hotel building on Tsarigradsko Shose Boulevard in the capital Sofia.
The official noted he was not aware of where the signal had come from but stated it was not from the US Embassy in Sofia.
Yordanka Fandakova, Mayor of Bulgaria’s capital Sofia, held talks with Georgi Kostov, Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior, over the signal submitted over a threat to the security of Sofia residents and guests, the press centre of Sofia Ministry announced.
Mr Kostov assured Ms Fandakova there was no information indicating such a threat.
There was stepped-up police presence close to the so-called Pliska Hotel building.
“Information about a terror attack in preparation in the Iztok residential district of the capital [Sofia] is not true,” Chairperson of Bulgaria’s State Agency for National Security (SANS) Dimitar Georgiev told Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, the press service of the government announced.
The signal the Bulgarian services checked was initially submitted to the 112 emergency calls system and the SANS and the Ministry of Interior performed a check on it.
It was established during the check love relations between a Bulgarian and a foreign national that have not been settled are concerned.
The Bulgarian services exchanged information with their international partners in the course of checks.
“There is no real danger for Sofia’s residents and guests. I am familiar with the details of the Bulgarian services’ check,” PM Borisov said.
According to the official, the manner in which the US diplomats disclosed the information they had received from their Bulgarian partners is “unacceptable”.
Boyko Borisov assured Bulgarian citizens the state checked each signal that would pose a danger to them and would not withhold such a thing from the public if there was even a slight danger to people’s health and life.
“A love story turned into hysteria,” said later Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, speaking at the inauguration of the new emergency medical care ward at the Saint Anna hospital in the capital Sofia.
The high-ranking official noted the signal had been submitted on Wednesday and a check of the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and the Ministry of Interior had been immediately launched.
“We detained them. It turned out this is a love story between people of the same sex,” Borisov remarked.
We said he could not make comments on the US diplomats.
In the Prime Minister’s words, the other operation of the Ministry of Interior has nothing to do with the story in question.
