GPs in Bulgaria readying for protest Monday

 “We are going out on an effective protest on Monday,” Dr Lyubomir Kirov, Chairperson of the National Association of the General Practitioners in Bulgaria, announced speaking in an interview with Nova TV.
“The protest will be expressed in suspension of the work. I would like to apologise to the patients for the inconvenience that will be caused but they should know that we have taken care to secure open cabinets where protests will be organised, which will handle the patients with acute diseases,” Dr Kirov explained. 
“The strike will start in several districts and then more will join it. On Monday we start in Kyustendil, Veliko Tarnovo, Razgrad, Yambol. Every day we will announce the districts that join the strike,” he added. 
“We do not strike for our money. We are forced to turn into soulless clerks who observe pointless regulations that harm the patients,” said Dr Gergana Nikolova.
Later on during the day Prime Minister Boyko Borisov commented on the issue speaking with journalists at the inauguration of the modernised Bezmer Air Base
“Is there any improvement in the healthcare sector this year that can justify increase of the money,” Boyko Borisov said.
“Should we increase the financing every single year? Is there any improvement in the healthcare sector this year that can justify increase of the money,” the Prime Minister asked.
“Everyone is constantly asking for more money. This money belongs to all taxpayers. More than BGN 3.5 billion goes to the healthcare sector. The army, on the other hand, gets BGN 1 billion. These boys have their demands, too – equipment, aircrafts, and so on. The state pays the six-year education of the experts in the sector. All taxpayers are paying for these people to get educated for doctors, with no strings attached, and then these people go to practice abroad. Is this correct,” Mr Borisov commented further, and reminded that BGN 20 million more was allocated for the emergency medical aid services recently.
