Health Minister Atanasova: Many of the medical products paid by patients will be charged on the NHIF next year

“Next year, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) will have enough money to pay for many of the medical products which are currently charged on patients,” Health Minister Desislava Atanasova said while commissioning a new scanner in St. Anna hospital in Varna, quoted by a reporter of Focus Radio - Varna. Minister Atanasova commented the change in connection with the Government’s intention to allocate BGN 50 mln to the NHIF in 2013, announced by PM Boyko Borissov.

The money will go towards paying a significant part of the medical products which are not being charged on the NHIF now. Minister Atanasova reminded that she has visited Varna several times in connection with the pregnant Stanislava, for whose surgery expensive products were needed. “In order to avoid such cases, BGN 50 mln will be allocated to the NHIF next year, mainly earmarked for the purchase of expensive medical products,” added Atanasova. PM Boyko Borissov underlined that a major reform in healthcare means state-of-the-art equipment, good doctors and good services.
