Bulgaria's debt up by 560.9 mln Euro in 2011

Bulgaria's debt increased by 560.9 mln Euro in nominal terms in 2011, announced bTV, citing data from the Ministry of Finance.

At the end of last year, the nominal amount of the debt was 5.945,9 bn Euro. The external debt amounted to 3.5 bn Euro, while the internal debt stood at 2.5 bn Euro.

At the end of 2011, the state debt amounted to 15.5% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product). The Ministry of Finance announced that the increase was due to new external and internal  financing and the difference in the exchange rates at the reevaluation of the debt.

At the end of 2011, 53.3% of the amount due was in Euro, 28.6% in BGN, 15.6% in USD and 2.5% in other currencies.

There is an ongoing tendency for an increase in the relative share of debt instruments denominated in BGN in the currency structure of the state debt. This contributes to limiting the risks related to the fluctuations of exchange rates on international markets, commented experts.
