The new SCC takes office

The new SCC officially assumed office. According to Prof. Lazar Gruev, who is head of the SCC, every day will be a battle for justice for the new members. The ceremony was attended by Boris Velchev, chief prosecutor, head of SAC Georgi Kolev, Rossen Plevneliev, National Assembly Chairperson Tsetska Tsacheva, Justice Minister Diana Kovacheva and MPs.

Professor Gruev indicated that their participation is a clear sign of a conscious state system. In his welcoming words, Gruev noted that SCС also ensures the independence of the judiciary power. Professor Gruev wished the new members to take each of their decisions with wisdom every day and for their decisions to be transparent. Chief Prosecutor Boris Velchev recommended that they focus on specific solutions and the first of these is to solve the issue of the workload.

President Rossen Plevneliev wished them "democracy, working institutions and justice to be the engines of your decisions". "SCC will take its wise and important decisions in the very first weeks in office. I wish to all of us that these decisions be not only wise and transparent, but working, to be made not only because of Brussels, but because of justice in Bulgaria," said the President.

One of the most important decisions that the new SCС should take is electing the new prosecutor. "I am convinced that the next Chief Prosecutor, whoever he or she is, will take a part from what I have been doing, but I am also sure that there will be an independent vision, understanding of things and I hope that these will be better than mine," Boris Velchev said. And he repeated that he will propose for the selection of a new chief prosecutor to start.
