Some 96% of OP Transport agreed, more than 37% are actually disbursed

Some 96% of OP Transport are actually agreed and more than 37% of the programme's budget are actually disbursed - over BGN 3 bn, Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski said. Operational Programme Transport has been moving at an extremely good pace and is one of the most successful programmes, the Minister emphasised. Perhaps we will be able to absorb the entire programme and the state will have to pay for additional projects. Brussels certified and restored BGN 1.2 bn, Moskovski explained. According to him, this money has actually entered the economy and is the main reason to generate growth. In a situation of crisis, the best way to growth is investment. The actual effects of the implementation of these tools can be seen. As a specific example, Moskovski pointed out the subway in Sofia. More than 350,000 people use the subway daily - a project of indisputable impact on the society and environment.

According to Moskovski, in the same way, in a few years we will see the Bulgarian railways in a different light as infrastructure. At this rate, if the OP continues to be implemented, we will probably need additional support from the state budget, Moskovski said. Road and railway projects, which have been agreed additionally under OP Transport, amount to about BGN 400 mln, he said. To eliminate the risk of failure, we have foreseen additional funds for the programme, the Minister explained. For 3 years, the programme succeeded to gain momentum and implementation of projects started. Preparation for the next programming period is happening within the terms agreed. Moskovski hopes that at the end of the period we will be able to make a boast of some very good results. About BGN 460 mln have been agreed from the World Bank to modernise BDZ, but the contract has not been signed yet. It is in the Ministry of Finance and in their opinion, we will wait for the privatisation of BDZ Freight Services and then the exact value of this agreement it will be considered. "The money is vital for BDZ because without restructuring their liabilities, they cannot move forward," added Ivaylo Moskovski.
