The staff of Varna's Blood Center withdraw resignations

The staff of Varna's Blood Center withdrew their resignations, Dr. Margarita Tochkova, the center's trade-union leader, announced. The decision came on Tuesday after medics met with reader Hristo Bozov, Deputy Mayor for health care. Tochkova said there are three main reasons for the decision. "First and foremost, we were swayed by the gesture Varna Municipality made," Tochkova said. The second reason is doctors and other specialists acknowledge the fact that they cannot leave a large area such as Varna without a working blood center, and, last but not least, was Health Minister Desislava Atanasova's promise to raise salaries by 11-20% and improve working conditions in the center.

Two weeks ago, 37 of the 53 employees at the Blood Center in Varna handed in their one-month notice driven by low pay and poor working conditions. Minister Atanasova went to Varna to meet with haematology specialists there. Meanwhile, Varna Municipality committed to providing financial assistance for the medical establishment.
