NCPOS: Support for GERB is 24.5%, for BSP - 18.5%, for MRF - 6.3%, for the Movement Bulgaria for Citizens - 5.8%

The difference between the electoral weight of GERB and BSP in early December remained unchanged compared to November - 6%. GERB may rely on the political sympathies of 24.5% of Bulgarians and BSP - of 18.5%. The data came from a nationally representative survey conducted by NCPOS.

It would be very risky, however, at the beginning of the winter season, to argue that there is serious political stabilisation in sympathy for the main political parties in the country, NCPOS commented.

MRF is the third political party, with electoral sympathies of 6.3%, and the Movement Bulgaria for Citizens has a very similar result of 5.8%. Personal approval rating for Meglena Kuneva among politically engaged Bulgarians has declined. In the last month, she has been losing her positions particularly among left-wing sympathisers. However, Kuneva still enjoys more support from the political left than the political right. It can be expected that the leader of the Movement Bulgaria for Citizens will address her messages more to frustrated and politically apathetic voters.

The Blue Coalition has the support of 3.1%. Adjusting the layers of the political right wing is an interesting research focus. This study recorded a low share of approval for UDF's leader Emil Kabaivanov - only 2.3%. However, as a result of the events of the past month, dislike for him grew by 18% (from 17% to 35%).

Ataka is supported by 2.8% of the voters in the country.

It seems that the next Parliament will be very colourful and it is very likely that 5 or more formations would enter it, instead of 3-4.

The theme of partnership between politicians who have a chance to find a place in the next Parliament will definitely be central for the upcoming political debates. Moreover, a number of smaller political parties, including new ones, will develop precisely according to their chances of being seen as a potential partner for large parties, who would hardly manage to govern the country without resorting to a coalition formula. These processes pose a potential risk that smaller political entities will scatter voters' choice.

The survey was conducted between November 30 and December 6, 2012, using the method of semi-standardised face-to-face interviews among 1,000 adult Bulgarian citizens in 86 cities across the country.
