Amendments to the Health Insurance Act are adopted evading the BMA for the Framework Agreement

At first reading, lawmakers adopted the amendments to the Health Insurance Act proposed by GERB. The changes proposed by the Coalition for Bulgaria and the Blue Coalition were rejected. According to the first reading amendments, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) will have to also finance additional activities for 2013. These changes were necessitated by BMA's refusal to sign the National Framework Agreement (NFA).

The first vote's decision of the National Assembly adopted that new activities, which are not contracted with the NFA, will be paid by the NHIF, Minister of Health, Desislava Atanasova, told journalists in Parliament, after the adoption of the amendments to the Health Insurance Act. "Funds for additional activities have been secured. Funds have been secured for assisted reproduction, intensive care, studies of patients with cancer, research and outpatient examinations for people with skin diseases and mental illnesses. I would like to congratulate Parliament that it took this decision in order to ensure 2012 activities for all Bulgarian citizens in need," said Atanasova.

According to her, the changes will not be adopted at second reading before the New Year. "Even after the Holidays, at the first session of the National Assembly, it won't be too late to adopt the bill at second reading," added the Health Minister.
