Holidays of Bulgarians abroad fell by 18.5%, compared to November 2011

The number of trips of Bulgarian citizens for holidays or excursions abroad fell by 18.5% in November 2012, compared to the same period last year, according to the National Statistics Institute (NSI). The total number of trips in another country in November was 252,300, which is 10.4% less than in October 2012, and 0.6% less than the trips registered in November 2011. The largest relative share - 56%, included trips for other purposes (visits, training, cultural and sports events), followed by business trips - 25.2%, and rest and recreation travels - 18.8%. Compared to November 2011, an increase was observed in travelling for other purposes - 102.6%, while there was a decrease in business trips - 49.5%.

In November 2012, the number of foreign tourists to Bulgaria was 404,600, which is 22.8% less than in October 2012 and 5.4% more than in November 2011, NSI data showed. An increase in the number of visits for rest and recreation was also recorded - 9.9%, as well as of those with professional purposes - 6.1%. More than half of the tourists in Bulgaria were citizens of the European Union. Compared to the same month in 2011, their share increased by 3.3%. The largest increases were observed in the number of tourists from Spain - 13.2%, France -12.5%, Germany - 11.7%, and Austria - 9.9%. However, a decline in the number of tourists from the United Kingdom was reported - 13.1% and Italy - 6.1%. The number of tourists from other European countries is increasing - 9.2%, and the greatest increase was recorded by Russia and Serbia - 29.7% and 17.4%, respectively.
