SEWRC’s head Angel Semerdzhiev dismissed

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov will propose to the Council of Ministers to dismiss the head of the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (SEWRC) Angel Semerdzhiev, announced the Government’s press office. The proposal is connected with the delay and lack of drafted and adopted administrative regulations related to the Third Energy Liberalisation Package, which became the reason for the European Commission (EC) to refer the matter to the Court of Justice of the European Union. These are ordinances to amend the ordinances regulating the prices of electricity and natural gas, the ordinance to amend the ordinance on licencing the activities in the energy sector and the rules for access to the gas transmission and distribution networks. The changes are required in connection with the transposition of EU rules for the internal energy market.

In the past six months, the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism sent three letters to the SEWRC, notifying the regulator that it should maximally speed up the procedure for the adoption of amendments to the regulations relating to the Third Energy Liberalisation Package because our country is threatened with criminal proceedings by the EC. In connection with the non-fulfilment of his commitments Angel Semerdzhiev submitted a request for early termination of his mandate as Chairman and member of the SEWRC and it was accepted by PM Boyko Borissov.
