Minister Naydenov: Wheat prices down on world markets

“Wheat prices on world markets are expected to decrease by 15% to 20%,” Minister of Agriculture and Food Miroslav Naydenov said on bTV on Wednesday. According to him, the price of bread will not rise. He commented on the surge in the prices of poultry due to the ban for the use of salts and water in the meat, introduced by the Ministry as follows: “Until now, some of the products contained up to 50% salt solutions which are not only harmful to health but consumers have to pay the price of poultry for the salt solutions. As a result of this ban, only pure meat without any solutions will be sold and prices will logically go up, especially these of products that used to be injected,” explained the Agriculture Minister. In his opinion, consumers may have to pay somewhat higher prices now, but for more healthy products of higher quality. “Fines of up to BGN 100,000 have been stipulated for those who violate the ordinance. The amendments to the Foods Act proposed by us stipulate fines of up to BGN 100,000 for first-time offenders and closure of their production in case of a repeated violation,” specified Naydenov.
