More than 1600 years ago in ancient China, many great painters of the past created thousands of impressive, outstanding and splendid murals in Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes. By doing this, people sang devout songs to praise and show respect to her. In three scenes and coda – The Graceful Dances from the Frescoes, The Remaining Grace of the Verve, The Harmony of Heaven, Earth and Man, and The Grand Occasion of Dunhuang – the Chinese world-famous Gansu Provincial Ensemble of Opera features through music and dance the most popular murals in the Mogao Grottoes, as well as some of the most important Buddhist deities. The ancient music is played on traditional Chinese instruments, such as Pipa, Guzheng, Bosom Drums, etc. This guest-performance is organized with the kind assistance by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bulgaria in collaboration with the National Palace of Culture.



Since its foundation in 1939, Gansu Provincial Ensemble of Opera has successively created and directed some two hundred operas of various scales, including Plain Xiangyang, Brother Mawu and Little Sister Dou, Hard to Meet Despite Short Distance, the Peony from the moon, and Red Snow. In particular, Plain Xiangyang is highly spoken as a classical Chinese opera after White Haired Girl, sister Jiang and Red Guards of Lake Honghu. In 1999, Red Snow was presented in Beijing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Since 2001, the Ensemble and its artists have been invited to give performance in France, Netherlands, Belgium, Hong Kong and Macao, which has earned their wide reputation for performing elegance and skills.

The large song, dance and instrumental music gala Dunhuang Charm is a masterpiece which was composed after three years of efforts. In 2004, the Ensemble performed Dunhuang Charm on the opening ceremony of the First China(Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair; In 2006, it played on the opening ceremony of China Arts Festival in Kazakhstan, and in Malaysia as well. Moreover,the Ensemble was invited to attend the opening ceremony of China Arts Festival held in Syria in March, 2008, and gave a visiting performance during the third ministerial conference of China-Arab State Cooperation Forum in Bahrain in May 2008. In 2005, the Ensemble was proclaimed as the National Outstanding Cultural Team by China's Ministry of Human Resources and Ministry of Culture.
