Mellow Music Festival

Mellow Music Festival is an urban musical event, taking place in downtown Sofia.
Its guests are musicians with an established reputation of innovation, young upcoming composing artists and ambassadors of styles underrepresented on the local scene. An instrumental approach to electronic music is the festival’s guiding thread. During a day and a night downtown Sofia is immerged in the sounds that make a difference. Its program takes place in Borisova Park, Shishman Street and 6 clubs, all within walking distance.

Red Snapper are a group of pioneers in the development of Acid Jazz and have since the 90’s been creating .a unique sound. Over their 15-year long history they have become an iconic project of the independent record label Warp Records (along with artists like Aphex Twin and Nightmares on Wax), placing them among the undisputed and world-renowned musical explorers who for some reason have skipped the Bulgarian stage. They describe their music as, a combination of “spooky soundscapes, submachine rhythm and bone shaking bass”. They’ll present their latest album (03/2011) – featuring the melancholic singer of UNKLE, Gavin Clark. The album includes for the first time in the band’s history double bass player Ali Friend’s vocals in Architectronic and Great First Touch. The rest of Red Snapper are Rich Thair, David Ayers and Tom Challenger.



Igor Boxx (or Igor Pudlo) is a Polish DJ, musician, producer and half of Skalpel. He will present us his project, born about a decade ago; a highlight of his independent career. The album BRESLAU LIVE tells the story of the multicultural city of Wroclaw, as from since it was conquered in 1945 by the Red Army until today. The songs radiate the mass force and fury of the Bolshevik attacks and the determination of the resisting, yet terrorized civilian population. Grinding krautrock sounds illustrate the monotony of endless battles and psychedelic elements underline the absurdity of military madness. Their jazz rhythms are symbol of chaos on both sides of the conflict, the ambient element depicts the desperate efforts defending the city. This musical trip in the guides you though the second half of the 20th century and its stories on vinyl culture behind the Iron Curtain. The rest is … um … history.
