“Qatar demands a rate of return of at least 14% in order in to invest in the Black Sea highway project, " said Minister of Regional Development and Construction Works Lilyana Pavlova for the Bulgarian National Radio yesterday.

Pavlova participated in the delegation, accompanying the Prime Minister during his visit to Qatar. The Bulgarian high –level officials proposed the country of Qatar to participate in a Public Private Partnership project for the construction of the highway between the cities of Burgas and Varna, for which no financing has been ensured. Depending on the economic analysis, the connection will be developed as a highway or a high speed road.

"It is unlikely that such a rate of return on the investment in the highway could be achieved,” stated Pavlova. She also said that the negotiations on the project were under way. In addition to the investments in roads and tourist infrastructure, proposals for the construction of large dams and hydropower and water treatment facilities, with options for electricity production, ensuring attractive rates of return, were debated in Doha as well. Investments in the Balchik airport and other tourist sites have quite certainly been agreed.

“Construction companies from Plovdiv might start operating in Qatar,” said Ivan Totev, Mayor of Plovdiv, for Darik Radio yesterday. According to him, because of the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2022, currently there is a growth in the construction industry there.
