Some 3-5% more expensive holiday packages in 2013

“Holiday packages in Bulgaria may become some 3-5% more expensive in 2013 due to the steep rise in electricity prices,” forecast Donka Sokolova, Chairperson of the Bulgarian Association of Travel Agents (BATA). The prices of holidays in 2012 were negotiated last year and cannot be changed. According to Sokolova, at a time of global economic crisis, the price is the most important criterion and if is 3% higher, Bulgaria will not be a sufficiently competitive tourist destination. Holiday-makers from Europe, who account for 60% of the guests visiting Bulgaria, cannot accept a price increase higher than the officially announced inflation rate,” commented BATA’s Chairperson.

“The tasks of the tour operator are not limited to the coordination and mediation between clients and providers of tourist services. Although tour operators have a significant influence on the major components of the tourism product, their influence on the providers of tourist services are entirely linked to the requirements and needs of tourist demand,” Baiko Baikov, Chairman of the Association of Bulgarian Tour Operators and Travel Agents (ABTTA), commented in turn. At the same time, ABTTA predicted some 5-7% growth in the industry’s proceeds this year.
