Agriculture Ministry to strengthen control over absorption of EU funds

The Ministry of Agriculture will strengthen the control over the absorption of EU funds, became clear from the words of Minister Miroslav Naydenov on Nova TV. He said he will suggest to the professional organisations in the agricultural sector a preliminary control system when applying for subsidies. The aim is to prevent abuse and fraud attempts which are not few, he said.

A meeting with representatives of the sector will be held on November 2 in Plovdiv in order to have sufficient time to consider and prepare the measures, since the submission of applications begins in February 2013.

“The price of bread will not reach BGN 2 per loaf,” Minister Miroslav Naydenov was adamant. According to him, prices have increased, indeed, but not drastically and the hike is due to the late harvest and the price of grain on world markets.

VAT on foodstuffs will be not be reduced, added the Agriculture Minister. He confirmed the information that talks are being held with the representatives of big food chains for an earlier start of Christmas discounts.
