Consumer credits register a new decline in October

The loans extended to households and individuals totaled BGN 18.655 bn at the end of October, having decreased by 1.7% vs the same month of 2011 (compared to the 1.5% year-on-year drop in September 2012), showed Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) data. At the end of October 2012, consumer credits amounted to BGN 7.3 bn, or 3.6% less than in October 2011 (vs the 3.3% decline in September 2012). Housing loans stood at almost BGN 8.83 bn, having increased by the negligible 0.4% on an annual basis (vs a growth of 0.5% in September on an annual basis). Only the so-called other loans increased by 3.4% year-on-year (5.1% annual growth in September 2012) to BGN 937.5 mln.

On the other hand, deposits of individuals and households preserved the upward trend from the beginning of the year and stood at BGN 33.36 bn at the end of October, registering an increase of 12.7%, compared to the same month in 2011.

Businesses’ deposits in banks amounted to BGN 14.2 bn at the end of October 2012, reporting an increase of 3.9%, compared to the same month of 2011 (vs an increase of 2.2% on an annual basis in September 2012).

Loans extended to companies in October rose by 5.8% year-on-year to BGN 34.68 bn. The growth of business credits (which is not high anyway) slowed down in the autumn, compared to the 6.1 % year-on-year increase in September.
