NRA launches a website to sell confiscated goods

The National Revenue Agency is expected to launch an official website on Thursday, where contraband goods, possessions and property of debtors will be sold, NRA spokesman Rosen Bachvarov told Klassa.bg. Anyone can participate in the bidding process. The NRA will sell various items, ranging from passenger cars at a price of BGN 300 to real estate in prestigious neighbourhoods in Sofia, and even entire enterprises. These were confiscated from debtors, primarily firms, or seized because they were smuggled. Some of the property on sale was acquired with illegal money. A storage depot for these belongings in Plovdiv is currently storing machinery, spare parts and cars. All these will be displayed on the site with pictures. "A large number of these have been the subject of a crime - cars or trucks which were used to carry contraband goods. According to Bulgarian legislation, they are confiscated and sold by the NRA," explained Bachvarov on bTV. Sometimes, it is very profitable to buy property. Currently, apartments in Bansko and Sunny Beach are also being sold. These are at a profit, since, in case there is no candidate for the first offer, the second one will be reduced by 20% and this process can continue until a total of 50% of the price is reached, which means that some of the assets are sold cheaper, Bachvarov added. Last year, properties that belonged to key people of the underworld were sold, which were seized by the Kolarov Commission. There is no interest in these, however, the Revenue Agency admitted. Auctions often offer valuable jewellery as well. Last year, revenues to the Treasury received from these sales amounted to more than BGN 16 mln.
