EC will not ban the use of rose oil in cosmetic products

“The European Commission (EC) will not undertake a legislative initiative to restrict the use of rose or lavender oil in cosmetic products,” said Minister of Agriculture and Food Miroslav Naydenov after receiving such an assurance from the EU Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy Tonio Borg. “There will be no problem with production and the issue of output depends on demand and the market,” commented the minister. According to him, Bulgarian producers of lavender oil have been market leaders for a second year and Bulgaria has been a world leader in the production of rose oil for centuries. The rose is our country’s symbol, it is our logo. This is also a matter of national pride. “The fact that prices have been record high in the last one or two years (one kilogram of rose oil costs over €6,000) and the economic crisis perhaps have their impact, but as a natural product with an indispensable flavour rose oil has a future, despite the pressure of synthetic products,” he added.
