guns and cigarettes, walls splattered with gray matter

Ronald Reagan lobbied members of the House of Representatives to support the

1994 federal Assault Weapons Ban. The ban passed by only two votes; at least
two House members publicly credited Reagan’s direct appeals for their “aye” votes.

1280 people die every day in the U.S. from smoking cigarettes. 270 people die every day in the U.S. form prescription drug interactions. Maybe we should take a step back and look at the whole picture instead of just focusing on one subject. 11,070 from prescription drugs, 52,410 from cigarettes, 1280 from people with guns. Twice as many people have died from inhaling second hand cigarette smoke.

Ban the cigarettes, weapons stay. There will be lots of hungry people on the streets sooner than we expect. Hungry people with guns, because desperate people always find their way to the guns. And if you die killed by someone with a colt, you're less stupid-dead than someone who dies from second hand smoke killed by people rooting for their smokers civil rights. It's not glamorous to not die in pools of blood, exploding flesh, gutted intestines, and walls splattered with gray matter. Not at all.
