Tenders for the construction of Lot 2 of the Maritsa motorway to be opened today

Today, the National Road Infrastructure Agency (NRIA) will open the technical tenders for the construction of Lot 2 of the Maritsa motorway, announced the NRIA. The 35 km-long stretch covers the route from the towns of Dimitrov to Harmanli, while its estimated cost is €105 mln.

Yesterday, the Public Procurement Agency announced the selection procedure of a contractor for the construction of Lot 1 of the Struma motorway. The project envisages the construction of the stretch between the village 'Dolna Dikanya' (Lower Dikanya) and the town of Dupnitsa. The section's length is 16.8 km and the assignor estimates its cost at €68 mln. The NRIA has scheduled construction works on Lot 4 of the highway to start within 10 days. The 15 km-long road stretch connects the towns of Sandanski and Kulata, and its projected cost is €53 mln. The state company Strategic Infrastructure Projects will supervise the construction works on this section. This fact is what caused former NRIA head, Bozhidar Yotov, to resign, explained he on BTV yesterday. Yotov did not agree with the administration of Minister Plevneliev and his proposal for the establishment of a project company which will be a beneficiary under Operational Programme Transport.

The GERB government decided yesterday to reduce unilaterally the charges for vehicles passing via the Danube Bridge from €6 to €2 . According to expectations, the reduction in fees will be compensated for in the budget thanks to increased traffic.
