Pharmacists demand fixed final prices of medicines

Fixed final prices should be introduced for all medicines and competition between pharmacies should be stopped, the National Chamber of Pharmacists insisted yesterday. The branch organisation proposed that the number of pharmacies should be limited by legislative regulations. “The opening of only one pharmacy should be allowed in smaller settlements,” explained Anton Valev, Chairman of the chamber.

The organisation proposes the introduction of a public-private partnership in order to ensure pharmaceutical services in urban areas where access to medicines is difficult. This should be implemented by negotiating procedures for co-operation between municipalities and existing local companies permitted to engage in pharmaceutical activities. One of the other proposals is for municipalities to subsidise night shifts of pharmacies in settlements where such services are not available.
