Regulator: Natural Gas Price Up By Less than 7%, Heating Utilities with Higher Prices

The appreciation of natural gas prices
will probably be below 7 per cent but it will have to be 3-4 per
cent higher than that for the heating utilities, State
Commission for Energy and Water Regulation chair, Angel
Semerdjiev, said here Friday. He was commenting the upcoming
adjustment of natural gas and central heating prices as of July
1.

He said the regulator will have to look at the international
prices of fuels and the exchange rate of the dollar, to decide
how far the 7 per cent increase requested by gas supplier
Bulgargaz is justifiable. He recalled that the price level also
depends on Bulgargaz' financial performance in the past quarter.

The regulator's chief underscored that heating prices remained
unchanged when gas prices were lasted upped (as of April 1) and
this time the heating utility companies should be compensated
for that.

He explained that the increase for heating prices will be
negligible in most parts of the country. It will be considerable
only in Rousse, on the Danube, but even there the regulator is
yet to reconsider the operator's arguments.
