Nona Karadjova: This is the last postponement of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis project assessment

“Last week’s postponement by two months of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis project environmental impact assessment (EIA) is the last one,” Minister of Environment and Water, Nona Karadjova, said yesterday on the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR). “Bulgaria’s legislation allows the EIA report to be postponed only twice,” she specified.

In September, when the investor Trans-Balkan Pipeline should have submitted additional information, the report must be made subject to a public discussion and the project’s fate to be finally decided.

According to Karadjova, the investor’s report contains no information about the measures to be taken in the event of an eventual oil spill in the Gulf of Burgas. The other lapse made public this week is the lack of engineering information about the new terminal for the unloading of the oil tankers.
