The Museum Gallery of Modern Art has the pleasure to announce the new exclusive exhibition of underwater photography by Mihail Zaimov at the end of their exhibition season 2010-2011. Especially for the Modern gallery the artist again will present some of his underwater adventure in his colorful and attractive photos, that the photographer has made around a few wild islands and Galapagos archipelago and the Sudan coast of Red Sea. Mihail Zaimov has three solo exhibitions last year in Sofia, Sozopol and Varna. The exhibition at Museum Gallery of Modern Art in Sofia will last from 5 to 15 of July.

However, underwater photographs can really stimulate the fantasy and imagination of visitors. Artist-photographer Mihail Zaimov, born in Sofia but living in New York, has set up an exhibition of 40 underwater photographs in the recently opened gallery for modern art. He has shot them in the Pacific and Indian Oceans as well as Red, Black and Mediterranean seas. There are wondrous deep water inhabitants and plants in various shapes and bright colors shot in a very professional way.



The practice of underwater photography requires serious training, devotion and discipline.  He has participated in several underwater archeological explorations – among them 6 sunk ships and 5 submarines. He plans to replace his underwater photography with underwater archaeology. Here is what he says about the newly unveiled exhibition in Sofia. The first to appreciate the exhibition were artists and photographers. One of them was artist Gredi Assa. Here is what he said about the 40 photographs of Mihail Zaimov.

“The underwater world is presented as a system of signs in the photographs of Mihail Zaimov. The system is waiting to be deciphered while fish is a key of sorts. Corals swing in a fantastic dance and that makes the photos ever more artistic.”

Photographs taken underwater have always been very impressive because they are not very usual. Underwater photography is a very different type of photography, but also a very difficult one. Because, first of all, you will have to dive to take those pictures and you will also need special equipment. The underwater world is very spectacular, and so are the photographs taken in that environment. However, not many people try it and those who do, are usually photographers with a sense of adventure and who want to make something different, or they are divers who have a second hobby, photography. But, if you like diving or want to try it, you should also try this type of photography as you might get some spectacular photos that would make your time and effort worthwhile.
