Theodosii Spassov was born on 4 March 1961. He began his early training on the kaval at the Kotel Music School and The Academy of Music and Dance in Plovdiv. The kaval, an eight-hole wooden “shepherd” flute, is one of the oldest instruments in Europe, rich in tone and technical possibilities. Theodosii Spassov has developed his own unique style of playing the instrument by synthesizing traditional folklore with jazz, fusion and classical music.

For over 20 years, Theodosii has toured over Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Australia, Canada and United States.In 1994 Theodosii Spassov performed with Sofia Women’s Radio Choir which was awarded with a Grammy award for “Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares”. In April 1995 “Newsweek” magazine recognized Mr. Spassov as one of the most talented Eastern-European musicians in its “best of the East” article, noting that “Spassov… is not merely surviving the post-communist cultural wasteland. He has actually invented a new musical genre.”



The Sofia Soloists Chamber Orchestra was established in 1962. This is one of the oldest chamber orchestras in the world. Their first concert had attracted the utmost interest. Soon after that, they started their triumphal way throughout the world 45 years-Europe, North America (10 tours), South America, Japan (13 tours), Australia, Korea, China, South-East Asia etc. The first 16 years conductor was Vasil Kazandjiev. He focused on accumulation of various repertoire. Between 1978 and 1987 conductor of the orchestra was Emil Tabakov. He enlarged repertoire, new instruments were included and the style was improved. From 1988 the conductor of Sofia Soloists is Plamen Djurov.



The Sofia Soloists are winners of first prizes from the major festivals in France and Germany, Zagreb and Ljibljana, San Sebastian and Santander(Spain), Louvain (Belgium), Bergen (Norway).The ensemble has collaborated with world famous artists like Heinz Holiger, Danail Shafran, Henrik Shering,Nicanor Zabaletta,Yfrah Neaman, Patrick Galois, Nigel Kennedy etc. The Sofia Soloists have earned the recognition of the critics for the preciseness of performances, for the unique sound , richly nuanced melody and originally interpretation. The ensemble play varied music-from the Baroque to the contemporary music and has more than 600 works in the repertoire.

The Sofia Soloists performed the premieres of more than 100 works, many of which written especially for them. The ensemble have more than 60 LP's and CD's recordings. The best of their repertoire has been published by the recording companies: BMG, Denon, Decca, Harmonia Mundi, Columbia, SABA, Victor, Gega New etc.For the season 2006-2007 the Sofia Soloists have except their regularly concerts in Sofia, also concerts in the all known music festivals in Bulgaria and tours in Japan, Korea, China, Spain, Germany and Austria.
